From about the 1650s to the 1730s, European colonization of the New World, rich vulnerable trading routes, and a mix of rivaling monarchies gave rise to the Golden Age of Piracy. This period of piracy was well documented and even romanticized at the time. Those stories have been inspiring our modern pop culture view through movies of pirates in the Caribbean and across the world. This necklace depicts a Jolly Roger with crossed bones behind a skull, a variation of Captain Richard Worley’s Jolly Roger. Worley sailed and pirated from the Caribbean Sea to the east coast of the American colonies. Two accounts exist of Worley’s defeat and death, one where he was captured and hanged February 17, 1719, and another where he was killed on deck in the crossfire of a skirmish in 1718.

The pendant is made from oil finished Padauk, an African wood with a reddish brown tone. Wood grain varies between each piece, giving every pendant a unique look. The chain has an antiqued brass finish with a lobster clasp closure.

I’ve created this necklace in 18 inch, 20 inch, or 22 inch lengths. Reach out to me if you would prefer a custom necklace length!

Please remember that all screens show colors differently, and the necklace you receive may slightly vary from the color you see on your device.

For the best life of your necklace, do not wear in the water. The antiqued brass can turn your skin green with wear, especially in high temperatures or with strenuous activity. If a more serious reaction occurs, discontinue wear.
